Baaghi 2
The Abs Saga
When a film's hero sneers at his tormentors and says, “What's torture for you is warm up for me,” you know he doesn't intend to impress with his acting but with the kind of muscle that comes from spending half a day working out.
Tiger Sheriff’s has found his niche fan-following among the appearance-obsessed millennials, who probably care more about their abs than their brains. And the Baaghi franchise capitalises on the star’s fighting fit body, proved by the number of scenes in which he is shirtless.
Baaghi 2, directed by Ahmed Khan, takes its plot from the Telugu film Kshanam, and adds a lot more masala and action. For one the civilian hero us turned into a military man—the super patriotic kind, who straps a stone-pelting guy to the front of his jeep and drives off. Okay, so somebody in the writing crew catches the news.
Ronnie (Shroff) comes haring down from Kashmir to Goa, to the aid of his ex-girlfriend Neha (Disha Patani), who appeals to him to help find her missing daughter Riya. When Ronnie embarks on the hunt, he is given to believe that no kid exists and Neha has made up the story.
The idea is to pit Ronnie against as many baddies as possible so that he can “fight, fly, repeat.” Which, of course, he proceeds to do with tremendous force. (Adivi Sesh, who did this role in the Telugu original did not have half as much fun.)
The film promises terrific action, which it delivers, so one can't complain. To cover up the lead pair's lack of acting skills, there are Manoj Bajpayee, Randeep Hooda, Deepak Dobriyal, Darshan Kumar and Prateik Babbar in supporting roles. There was no need to get Jacqueline Fernandez to mess up Ek Do Teen, but an unapologetically commercial film still needs an ‘item’ number, so there it is. (The good girl could not be made to dance like that, even in a dream sequence, Bollywood remains conservative that way.)
Obviously, nobody will go and watch Baaghi 2 to be enlightened about the state of the world. So go see Tiger Shroff’s sculpted abs and hit the gym.
