Entertainment

Wag This Dog

Bollwood cinema is constantly hitting new lows, so sometimes it’s baffling to figure out just how much lower the audiences are willing to let their standards go before they realize that they are being conned in the name of Entertainment—in this Sajid-Farhad film, it’s the name of a dog. And before you say it, the film’s tag line does—entertainment has gone to the dogs. It really has!

Sajid-Farhad, the directors of this film have written dialogue for Rohit Shetty and Sajid Khan, so you wonder if they first thought up lines like:

Jaisi karni waisi Mamta Kulkarni
Kahan chala Sonakshi Sinha taan kar
Prabhudeva ki Mahima Chaudhary dekh
Is kutte ki to Anupam Kher nahina
I just Rajni-can't believe this
Sameera Reddy, steady, Govinda
Itna Pankaj Udhas mat baith

and then decided to fit a film around them?

As the plot goes, the penniless Akhil (Akshay Kumar) discovers that his real father was very rich and died in Bangkok, but left his fortune to his dog called Entertainment (Junior).

Akhil and his Bollywood-obsessed buddy Jugnu (Krushna Abhishek) do all they can to get rid of the dog, but end up getting attached to it. Enter two villains called Karan and Arjun (Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood), who also have an eye on the dead man’s property.

If all this poor stand-up comedy line maaro-ing wasn’t enough, Akhil’s girlfriend Sakshi (Tamannaah Bhatia) is a TV actress who overacts Balaji serial style, and has lines like, “"Hamaari ekta hamey shobha nahin deti."  (Groan!)

There is a whole lot of annoying tomfoolery on throughout the film, spot-the-movie-reference gags (like the ghost story sequence from Pyar Kiye Ja), dog-biting-crotch kind of humour, some of it is funny and at some scenes you crack a smile, because, heck, they are trying so hard.  But mostly you just want to fling something sharp at the screen.
